Psychedelic Music - Bags Discography
Boston Phoenix review of 1996 Pipeline show, the last Bags reunion.
Who Are The Bags?
- Lead Guitar: Crispin Wood (below, at right)
One of Boston's best guitar players, Crispin mixes Hendrixy
leads with classic garage crunch that shows shades of The
Bad Brains, The Ramones, Led Zeppelin and many other great
bands.
In addition to rocking out with The Bags he pens the superb cartoon
Rock School
Be sure to check out his website:
CrispinWood.com.
- Drums: Jim Janota (above, middle)
Jim is one of the most powerful drummers in the Boston
scene, if not the free world. His driving rhythms and
perfect timing keep The Bags honest, while letting them
lumber, stumble, thrash or hammer. His career includes
stints with The United States, The Lyres and
Upper Crust
- Bass Guitar and Vocals: Jon Hardy

Photo: Tony Maciag
One of the most recognizable parts of The Bags mighty and
irreverent sound, Jon Hardy is an innovative vocalist and one
of the most jamming bass players around. His
clever lyrics and amusing vocal stylings are nearly
eclipsed by his Reggae-influened tone and awesome improvisational
style.

![[I Know]](/images/bags_iknow.gif)
One of their best singles, it showcases the classic Bags
style on the A side, then turns over and experiments with
60's style psychedelia. Cool.
45; Stanton Park #STP-013; Released March, 1989.
The Bags alter ego, Swamp Oaf, rocks every bit as well. Way, way out of
print and very hard to find, even in Boston.

and Wail, which also appears on the
WMBR Pipeline CD.
LP; Stanton Park #SLP-002; Released June, 1989.

It rocks like nothing else.
LP; Stanton Park #SLP-002; Released March, 1990.
![[L. Frank Baum]](/images/bags_lfrankbaum.gif)
This single reveals a strong art-rock sensibility, as L.
Frank Baum sends up The Wizard Of Oz like Dorothy's house
in a tornado. Yes.
45; Stanton Park #STP-018; Released June, 1991.
A classic Bags 45, released on the italian Helter Skelter label.
Be careful, or Dr. Lb. will hit you with some volume.

- The Bags: Night Of The Corn People
The Bags swan song, this killer was released as a CD on
Stanton Park Records , and as a double LP on colored vinyl

Amsterdamned, The Mole, I Smell A Rat and
Living In The Country. The second LP contains the full-side
Rock Opera Waiting For Maloney, which is pretty much indescribeable,
and five more classic Bags tunes. A must have.
CD; Stanton Park SCD-005, Released August, 1991.
Double LP; Helter Skelter #HS921211, Released January, 1992.
